Big News from Kevin

We haven't heard much from Kevin since he up and moved away to rural China.

Things from him always seem to come out of left field (see: moving to China).

So it shouldn't have been super-shocking this morning when I opened up an email entitled "Big News".

I thought maybe he was going to be moving back stateside or something. But no. It was bigger news.

As many of you already know, I've been dating a woman here in China for a few years now - Amy (Wang Wei Jia). We've been growing together and things have continued to bloom in both our lives. About a month ago Amy and I decided to get married. The marriage is not official yet so I wanted to wait to tell everyone, however, recent exciting events prompted me to tell everyone earlier. Not only am I getting married but I'm also going to be a daddy!

Last week Amy and I discovered she was pregnant. we will be expecting a new person in our lives at the beginning on June, 2010. It's a very exciting time for us and I just wanted to let everyone know. There are many people not on this list so please forward the news on to anyone.

Best Regards,

TL turns 30!

Teresa, for her big 30th birthday celebration, decided to rent out what looked to be a serial killer's basement in SoHo.

We got to the place, and to get to "the Backroom" you had to walk through the kitchen.

And down these scary stairs.

There was no cell reception. If we all died, noone would have ever known.

In the dark though...all decorated with Christmas lights...it was kind of a neat place.

The place had capacity for maybe thirty people comfortably. But I'm pretty sure they packed a hundred or so in.

Me, Chris, Marco, TL, an open bar, and a bunch of randos.

It was super fun though.

And a TimLo appearance made it epic.

(Sidenote: I think Tim is seriously thinking about moving to NYC permanently so in this next month we all have to do what we can to make sure he falls madly in love with our city.)

Happy Birthday TL!

After TL's...I texted Connie and Felix to see where they were at.

They told me a in the West Village so I hopped in a cab to get over to them.

It was raining. A lot.

And of course I got there a little late and they had already auto-piloted home.

And so it is that I find myself in the pouring rain with no cabs (when it rains in NYC, everyone screams and hops in a cab so it becomes impossible to find an available one) gimpily walking drunk and soaking wet in my suit jacket to the nearest subway station which is nine or ten blocks away.

I was SO aggro.

So I sent this text while taking a break from the torrential downpour:

Granted I never told them I was coming. Partially my b.

Sorry ConCon! I ruv u!

Cicero's Birthday!

The other night Brian hosted a birthday party for the beloved Cicero.

We ate cheese.

Drank beer.

Watched the dogs play.

And chatted while silently thinking to ourselves how dreamy Oliver is.

Friends! Romans! Other friends!

I write to you with a big ole honkin' ring on my hand. Yes. I am engaged. Betrothed. Affianced. Getting married. Ahhhhhhh!!!!

THE STORY
Dan had big plans to cook me a seven-course feast last night (seventh course: diamonds). He got out of work early and was going to have it all laid out when I got home, but of course I foiled his plans by leaving work early because I've been all sickly lately. Despite my fever-nap sweats, he decided to stay the course and made a delicious meal. After dessert, I was like, thanks babe! Let's watch Top Chef! And he was like... there's one course left. Then he brought out the flowers and started saying nice things and I began making weird, emotional noises, and then we were engaged. Yay!

We never did watch Top Chef.

FAQ
Did you know it was coming?
On a random Thursday? Definitely not.

Was your entire family and several friends in on it?
Yes. They were really sneaky.

Seriously? None of them spilled the beans?
I can't believe it either.

When's the big day?
As we have been engaged for ~12 hours, I have no idea. Check in again around hour 48?

How do your cats feel about this?
They haven't said anything, but I think they're pretty excited.

Will you turn into a Bridezilla monster?
I hope so!

THE RING
Come on, we all know you want to know. Aaaaaand I just realized that I left my camera cord at home, so I guess you'll have to wait. OR, if you're in the metropolitan area, come to my birthday/now-also-engagement-celebration at Williamsburg's Radegast Beer Hall at N. 3rd and Berry next Saturday, Oct. 3! Dan and I will be there to claim table space and drink 32 oz. steins of Czech beer starting at 8. If you can't make it: I will tell you that the ring is very sparkly, and Dan was super crafty in finding out just what I wanted without my knowing.

I love you all! I'm sorry I didn't have time to call you each individually, but I wanted to tell you before it hits Facebook. Woo hoo!

Love,
Meghan
