Snake Soup and the yummiest dimsum of my life...

So we braved Chrismas Eve traffic and headed into downtown Tsim Sha Tsui for lunch.

Hong Kong's skyline is always changing with monstrous new buildings going up in a matter of months. I haven't been back since March 2008 due to the broken ankle, so it's been a while.

Also I learned that my grandpa used to own a little 6-story building which is now the site of a massive Gucci/Louis Vuitton/Chanel shopping complex.

He sold it way back in the 60's though, back when the area was just a dirt road with a couple of chicken hatcheries on it.

If only he had hung onto it...I would probably be living in a sweet SoHo loft!

Sigh.

Anyway....my grandma likes nice things and eating her face off.

So we arrived at the newly remodeled "Mira" hotel (formerly known as the "Miramar", which personally I think sounds much better and less Asian.)...

Their new restaurant is called Cuisine Cuisine (bear with the naming of these places), and is impeccably decorated...

From the super cool hanging glass bulbs...

To the cute little candle-lit tea-warmers...

And the built in lazy-susans.

The menu was unlike any dimsum menu I've ever seen.

The have the standards....like shrimp and pork shu-mai...

But then even with these they get a little fancy, like with the tri-colored har-gow (shrimp dumplings).

And the xiaolongbao (omg pork soupdumplings) with hairy crab and each having their own little carrying-thing.

And the shrimp/crab spring rolls...

And the squabpigeon in wine...

And the taro puffs with diced chicken and foie gras...

And yummy greens covered in crabsauce.

And braised noodles with BBQ pork.

And THEN there was the snake soup.

I've never had snake soup before. But it was delicious. If you weren't told what it was you would never guess it was snake.

It contained five different types of snake, including Cobra and Rattlesnake.

I felt like I was made of magic afterward.

It seriously had to be the best dimsum experience of my life.

Felt a little bad about Mr. Pigeonhead though...

Maybe he'll get to hang with Mr. Goat and Mr. Frog in the sweet singing after-area of decapitated food-animals!

Bryce's Birthday

So Smileyjohn picked me up from the airport last night around 10pm and whisked me straight over to Silverlake where Bryce was celebrating his birthday.

Which birthday I'm not going to say because it makes me feel old.

Really old.

Fine it was his 22nd birthday.

Oh my god we are ancient.

Bryce's brother came into town for the event. (He is also 6'7".)

We arrived, and it was already pretty much a sh*tshow.

Bryce got onstage to sing "Happy Birthday" to himself.

And proceeded to yell at all the Asians for not singing loud enough.

And then we danced around like retards. Especially when they played "Telephone".

Oh, the party was semi-Avatar themed.

Quite wastedface and fun.

We got home and Danny made some Egg and Steak thing with Bulgogi sauce and it was awesome.

Happy Birthday Bryce!
